I've had that Louise, click 'Submit' again, and 9/10 times it'll work fine.

I've not thought of it like that before, but yes, they look freshly slaughtered...

Dunno why but it's quite eerie slightly like hanging animals in an abatoir strange

(i tried to quote with the picture in my reply but it said It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. so i had to tr explain instead

yeh, i've always thought the look like carcases hanging in an abattoir!

i also experience the same as you with regard to the message telling you about the dimensions - something we'll have to look into!

Post subject:  levallois factory?

Hi
Does any one know the EXACT address /location of the Levallois factory.... in Paris?
Most of my books refer to the Levallois factory as a general location.

I have a friend who owns an apartment in Levallois-Perret and we stay there whenever we visit Paris.
I would love to walk to the site where the factory was.

(No, I promise I won't kneel in the gutter and kiss the hallowed ground)

I guess I could visit the Mairie/Hotel de Ville ( town hall) and ask. That will test my French.
(what is this silly old man on about?...I hear them ask)

Cheers
Bob

I'm fairly certain the factory was located on Quai Michelet, opposite the Pont de Levallois bridge. I have driven along that road in my 2cv, but it's a busy dual-carriageway, so I did'nt get the chance to stop and nose around. :(

Take a look on Google Earth, they have the road on Google Street View, just click on the icon of the camera, it will zoom in and show the road as if you are there. There's a new glass office block, right where the factory 'should' be. Hope that helps.

Thanks, will take a look next time I am there.
(We had planned to go again in July but I have had to cancel due to temporary ill health with a crook back)

Cheers

Well I've been doing a little bit of research and I'm now even more confident that I am right, as to the location. Round the back of the building in question, are two adjoining streets, Rue Andre Citroen and Rue Clement Bayard. Clement Bayard was the bicycle company taken over by Citroen and the factory used for Citroen car production(the 2cv factory). The original address for the Clement Bayard factory was Boulavard de la Saussaye 47, Neuilly(Lavallois-Perret).

This site has a photo of the Lavallois factory, at the time the Citroen 7.5hp was built there(1920s).

Forgive the fact that the American chap clearly has many facts wrong, regarding the car, this snippet from a March 1988 edition of The New York Times helps to give an idea of the social-political realities of the Levallois factory and helps to explain why Citroen closed it down.
