Have a used set of pistons and barrels.
There is no ridge on the barrels.
What sort of tolerance is ok?
Worth fitting new rings?

Very simple. Fit new compression ring inside the worn barrel and measure the end gap max 0.35mm. If bigger then barrel is worn (out) I would bin it.

If it was even slightly worn, there'd be a ridge, though...
