I currently have a couple of leaks after some rainfall & would welcome any advice as to their possible source...

a)The rain drips from somewhere to the front foot wells just in front of the front shelf on a 2cv special. There does not seem to be an obvious source & the tray itself is dry.

I cant see where it drips from or whether it is a dribble effect from somewhere else.

b) i have a couple of drips down the rear wheel arches

Any tips welcome as I would love to solve it before winter proper sets in

The most common cause of rainwater dribbling down the front parcel shelf and/or the speedo/dashboard, is leaking seals of the wiper spindles. Even when you fix it, it frequently returns very quickly. It's a 2cv thing I guess.

Rear wheel arches could be various causes depending on what part of wheel arch. Front of rear wheel arch, or middle, probably rear quarterlight window seal as most obvious. Very back of rear wheel arches inside, most likily boot lid edges leaking

Wiper spindles, almost certainly, although crunchiness under the windscreen rubber can't be ruled out.



Unfortunately, I suspect the answer is that it's coming in where there should be metal - either the lips for the rear side windows or the inner arch seam.

Yep. Stops the leaks but it is bloody hard to see when driving.

Not only the wiper spindles leak. The front ventilation flap is also a problem, or rather the seal above it that is held in place with the bright metal strip with many little nuts. When doing a long trip on a rainy day, I often tape up the whole area using gaffa tape to stop the ingress of water. One day I will silastic the offending bit.

I gave up with my two 2CVs and drilled two holes in the floor - front right and front left at the lowest point. Part of the original Citroen design spec for the 2CV was "Use rubber mats on floor because car is designed to be self flushing with precision fitted parts". At least the holes mean that I can still drive without goloshes on a wet day.

On both cars there are rust holes underneath the rubber of the rear quarter windows. I had always presumed these were part of the 2CV flow through ventilation system, but realised they were probably rust holes when the ventilation became overwhelming. I fixed on car (Daffy Duck) by welding in some extra metal. The other car is due for replacement panels from quarter window to bumper and laterally below the boot lid.

On a wet and windy day, water comes in between the front door and A frame as the seal contact breaks away.

WE Dutchies have a (temporary) solution for leaking wiper spindels.
You go out to buy some Grolsch-beer in de famous "Beugel"-bottle.
You van choose for drinking the beer, or throw it away.

Then you take the red rubber sealing from the cap and place them under your windscreen wipers...

ah!! i saw a couple of dutch cars at the world meeting with what i thought were Grolsch sealing rings on wiper spindles! ingenious!
