Post back/miss/wrong-fire eeek!
Ok so I think I've put a fair few miles under the dyanes belt since getting her, thanks Jono :D, but after the trek down to cambridge and back she did something new...

From standstill set of in first, fairly quick change to second (comes from driving oil burners in t'other job I suppose) then as you apply power it splutters then recovers as if nothing ever happened.

Today I was driving back from Widnes to Leeds and it did it again but this time with an almighty bang, but again a split second later she was composed and on with the journey.

Other than this she drives spot on, other than being a little down on power.

Am I loosing my marbles? am I driving her wrong? is she going to throw a piston through the wing?

Any guidance appreciated...

Try cleaning up the LT (small) connections on the coil, and reattaching the wires better. It might be a good idea to put some new female terminals on the ends of the LT wires, as IIRC they weren't that great.

There might be more to it, but dodgy LT connections can cause a splutter when changing up from 1st to 2nd.

P.S. They don't really like 'early' upshifts.

Check timing, too advanced can cause that.
Check acc pump on carb working and giving a good squirt.
Check mixture, too rich and the jet from the acc pump can cause a stall

Then tappets, condenser and points plugs etc .....usual suspects ;)

you sound like you think I know what I'm doing?! ha I'll have a poke aboot. Low tension cables shouldn't be a problem, I think i've got the right connectors and some pretty hefty auto-electric cables should I find any deed wire's.

Good advice, there - I'd check the plugs first if they've been in a while (easy!) - a large gap can cause the odd misfire/stutter as the spark fails to jump, especially at lower revs when you put your foot down.

find someone to show you how
Haynes is a good start

just idly poking about aint goin to fix it

A good 2cv enthusiast/expert will be more than happy to talk you thru what they are doing then you can keep it in tip top condition!

Sean
PS your in Yorkshire? a trip up/down/across round the corner to Hemmingbro to see Ken and all will be well.

Hemmingbro?!

I'm capable of doing these things (have done most of it but on a 'conventional' 4cyl japanese engine) but lack of time and familiarity with 2cv engines makes me stand and scratch my head a bit.

I'll whip the sparkies out and check the gap, replace the LT connections on the coil and maybe even treat her to some new HT leads (they're looking a bit tired) and see how it goes.

Unless anyone is willing to show me round the engine of my new found favorite car?
