Post Any tips separating rusty exhaust pipes?
My standard tailpipe is knackered and bent and it hits the bumper, so i have the side exit tailpipe, but i am thinking the old sucker aint gonna budge that easily! any tips? or am i going to have to cut it off?!

Done this recently. You undo if you can the tailpipe from the box and mouning points put a block of wood on the inside of the box against the suspension thingy to stop it moving you spray it with WD40 and/or heat and try and open the 2 slits with a flat screw driver, If you succseed in this the go to the back and try to move the pipe side to side. If you get movement succsess. If you dont try putting your arm under the bendy bit in the tail pipe and try twisting the pipe up and down. The block of wood stops the rest of the system moving and blowing at the cross box. Hope this helps.

this was what i was planning on doing, did you leave the rear silencer in place? is this where you put the block of wood to stop it bending?

Put a short side exit van pipe on it next. Looks good and sounds better also easier to replace.

Engines often don't develop quite as much go at high revs with a side exit pipe - plus, look out you secure the rear rubber mount for the side silencer, or the extra freedom of movement will quite likely fracture the crossbox where the swan neck is attached. I'd always have a full length tailpipe, even though it is a pita to fit. :geek:
