I'm trying to refit some pistons after replacing the seal around the pushrods, and I can't get that sod of a U-flex ring to co-operate. Does anyone have any tips at all? |

What's the problem? Getting it onto the piston? Or getting it into the barrel? What sort of ring compressor are you using? |

If you dont have a ring compressor the oil control ring can be dificult. You can use a good large jubilee clip with plenty of oil. Make sure that all the gaps dont line up on the three rings. |

Righto, an update... Thanks for suggestions thus far but things have changed a bit. After leaving the problem last night in the hands of my capable comrade I got a call this morning explaining he had inadvertently engaged the starter, and shattered the pistons. Another engine was sourced, and its pistons, cylinders, cylinder heads, and associated valves etc transplanted. We are now suffering from very low compression, and a stripped thread in the oil feed line to the right cylinder head. Would the old cylinder head fit the new cylinders suitably? In order to avoid doing battle with the scoundrel of a U-flex ring we transplanted the cylinders with the pistons in situ. It would be nice to simply switch the cylinder head to attain a non leaking state of oil feed. Also are there any other things to check/look out for? Many thanks |
