My 1989 Special came without a battery - new one now fitted. The batt cables and regulator were left hanging loose over the heater pipes. Ok, so where does the regulator go?!

It has a soft rubber moulding on it which seems to have a slot that would slip down over a 1.5"-ish wide bracket, but there's no such thing anywhere I can see. Is there meant to be a bracket like this - perhaps one that mounts onto the battery retaining clamp?

As I remember, the regulator on my old cars used to slot into a receptacle on the battery, but I've fashioned one for the bukhead on Belinda. All you need is a piece of metal bent at the sides and the bottom.

I guess this bracket must be sitting on the previous owner's garage floor then...

I need to keep this car as original as possible (as it is completely original) so am reluctant to add anything different to what was there before. If the guy doesn't have the part, can someone describe what it's like - does it clip on to the battery restraining bar, to the battery itself, or what?

Sorry to be a pedantic a**e about this - for my other 2CV I wouldn't even be asking about this - I'd have stuck it on by now :oops:

A gen-u-wine Citroen original battery would have had the clip moulded in. Since they've not been available for AAAAAGES, and a battery is a consumable, I don't think it's outrageous to add a clip somewhere unobtrusive.

The original was actually a plastic moulding on the battery itself, but have a look through my thread about Belinda, I'm sure there's a pic somewhere of what I did

The original batt having a built-in clip would explain it! Not a problem, then - a bracket it will be.

mounting the voltage regulator on the bulkhead or on an 'aftermarket piece of kit to prevent a RHD bulkhead cracking because Citroen c.b.a. to reinforce it' may not be original.

However, it's likely to save the regulator from the same fate as many suffered with the original arrangement, which was either to be melted when they fell onto the exhaust, or squashed if they got tangled up with the n/s track rod.

Your choice, of course... :lol:

Hmm, that's a toughy...

I'm learning that the 2CV has some classy ways of demolishing its parts :(

A nice strong bracket it'll be, then...
