Post subject:  2cv lights not working

Hi all, I am putting my 2cv back together but am
having difficulty getting the lights on one side of the car to work and was wondering if anyone might have any ideas as to what the issue might be.

All lights on the N/S work but only the indicator, brake lights and main beam works on the O/S (appreciate they are different circuits). The car has two fuse boxes and l am of the understanding that the top fuse with green wires and no coloured sleeve is the one concerned for this side of the car. I have checked the voltage either side of the fuse and there is only a nominal voltage (less than 0.5 bolts), with the lights on. I have also tried putting a 12v lead to the fuse directly and still nothing but I have managed to get the rear tail light working with a 12v directly on to the rear loom. It’s probably something obvious but any help would be much appreciated! Car is 1988 and the dim dip has been removed previously. Thank you.

One option...

Check the "earths" on the side that isn't working:

Thanks for the suggestion. I did wonder about the earths but as far as I can tell the circuit earths through the lights and I have managed to get the lights working, using the power feed from the other side of the car. Unless there is another earth from the switch I’m missing but I can’t imagine there would be. I think it seems to be a power supply issue, as the voltage to the green wire/unsheathed fuse from the switch is very low (the red sheathed fuse is fine). There also appears to be low voltage from the fuse to correct bullet connector for the rear loom. The continuity from the rear loom at the bulkhead to the light is ok. I am unclear as to how the wiring is laid out and spilt on the ‘1989’ loom, as this isn’t shown in the Haynes manual very well. All a bit of a headache!

Maybe try a "Temporary Earth" to the battery earth.

However .... Nothing so permanent as a Tempoary solution

and welcome back to the forum.

Thanks both for your help on this. All resolved now. Turns out the issue was faulty terminals and some of the wiring, which I have now cleaned up and replaced. In the end I removed the loom from the car and all of the dim dip wiring, which resolved the headlight that wasn’t working. I just need to get the car going again!
