Post axle arm castellated nut - tightening it up.
Hello - I've been working on my axle arm bearings - I've changed out the old rusty ones, re-greased and am reassembling. Has anyone got a method for tightening up the castellated nut - the manual say tighten to 43ft.lb, back off, then tighten to 36ft.lb. I don't have a suitable socket - so am looking for something involving tapping the nut around with a drift.

Buy a torque spanner !
it always comes in handy .
I have three of them, a small one, one with more torque and one with even more torque.
Nowadays they are not that expensive.

edit:
Ups, i did not read it properly

Hi,

if you've gone to the trouble of buying new bearings etc. then what's another £32.00 plus p&p for a lock ring tool? :D
Seriously though, drifting it will work but if you are in the 2cvgb club then asking your local group to borrow one would be best.

Good luck :)

ummm. The burton tool @£32, https://www.burton2cvparts.com/en/rolli ... cknut-tool, does not have a 1/2" female for a torque wrench! It just has 4 holes - for a screwdriver it says! No different to a drift.

Make something yourself with a few pieces of angle iron with an old socket welded on top??

I should have said that a suitable nut should be welded on top of the expensive tool. I made my own.
