Post subject:  engine stalls from time to time

Lately I have been having the occasional problem that my engine stalls when I am at a traffic light, or just have to stand still for a while.
The problem does not always occur, but it is sometimes very annoying because you can't keep up with modern traffic very well with the van.
The tank is clean, I recently took it out and cleaned it, including the filter.
The fuel line was completely renewed last year because the old one was broken, the carburetor I have cleaned twice after the car turned off, ( but there was almost no dirt in it the first time, the second time it was clean to the eye) ,the pump works well.
I do fill up with Euro 95 instead of 100 the last few months.
If it stalls on the road, I remove the idle nozzle when I get home and clean it with a compressor and it runs fine until it stalls again.
I suspect it is due to the ethanol but am not sure. Does anyone have any experience with this? By the way, it is an AYA 2 engine from the 1974 AZU/ 250.

i run all 2cv's on 95 E10, no problems. Is you mixture ok? Idle revs to low? Maybe you can change the idle jet, you can blow it clear but there still might be something in it.
The solex 34 pics carb has 2 jets, the idle jet and the pickup jet.

Hello Fer,
Thanks for that info.
I cleaned both jets, the idle is not too low, I had it checked by a local garage.
But I might try some other jets, i do have some new spareones I once bought on the At/m ZX market from a dealer

Found the problem !
The carburettor was lose :?
The thick gasket was in very bad condition.
It was replaced about 3 years ago with a new one, but i suppose nowadays the quality of spareparts is very poor.
I still had an old one laying around , I flattend it with sandpaper and a mirror.

Anyway, it looks like the problem is solved for now.
Fingers crossed

Runs nicely now.
Went to Kaposvár this morning and back again, then to Tab and back and it runs even better than before.

Hi Geert, you are right. New parts are often of a poor quality. I had carter vent tubes for the 57 from firma B in the Netherlands. The first desintegrated in 3 months, looked like it couldn't resist oil??? I got a new one. That did cope a bit longer about 1,5 years. This did fall apart this summer. The old one that was on the car did cope for about 50 years and was only a bit hard. So i still had an old one hanging at an air filter in my stock, i put that on....

It's true. I was proactive in replacing some things on my Deuche years ago. I do regret that now since the parts I removed were better. But I sold them on ebay at the time!

Old capacitors, always hold onto them. :)
