 Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals
Friends, I'm here picking your brains again.
My master cylinder is dripping fluid. Possibly since I had to change the steering column and there was a lump hammer involved. If I wiggle the reservoir down a bit or improves, but doesn't completely stop, still a tiny bit of moisture.
I've ordered the seals from Ecas. Any instructions to fit these or is it obvious?
Thanks!

 Re: Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals
Just push the reservoir sideways till it comes out. Change the seals and wriggle it in with a bit of force. Empty it as far as possible before..

And make sure the faces either side of the new seal are spotlessly clean and smooth

 Re: Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals
add a little LHM to lubricate when adding the seals and you may need to be a little robust when pushing the reservoir back in.
You may actually find that is the issue you have with the old seal. You do need to be robust when pushing it back in.

 Re: Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals
Quick question please guys. I won't need to bleed the brakes after changing these seals will I? I haven't got around to it yet, it's dripping quite a lot so I should. I almost forgot but the little red light popped on and reminded me. Oops!

 Re: Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals
No, you should not need to bleed, as any air will just rise in the reservoir. Though I strongly recommend you try a more robust approach with original seals first. As you can see from the lip on the reservoir, and the shape of the new seals you have, it needs to be pushed well in to stop the seals distorting. A can of brake/clutch cleaner will tidy it afterwards.

 Re: Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals
Thank you Roger. I've been pushing it in pretty strongly, but it's worth another go. Nothing to lose is there. Apart from a small amount of fluid!
The picture is really helpful too, thanks!
Yeah I thought no bleeding needed but thought I'd check.

 Re: Master Cylinder Reservoir Seals
I lost the seals I bought, and took so long to get some more, I only just did this yesterday.
Super easy of course, and all seemed well until I noticed a tiny bit of fluid still - there was a hard to see crack in the reservoir itself. Should be OK for now as its only just a bit below the maximum mark on the reservoir. I think the seals were leaking too so I'm glad I changed those, and have ordered a new reservoir. Thank you for the help.
