Look after your Axle Tube bearings.

Current price of each bearing £20 + and you need 8 for a complete car.

Have found they tend to go rusty as the bottom due to the ingress of water.

Solution to allow lubrication via 2 grease nipples on each arm.

See diagram to locate position of grease nipple, which will be different for the inner and outer bearings.

The hole should be between the lip seal and the bearing.

Drill a pilot hole to ensure the position is as shown in the diagram.

Then drill a 7.1 mm hole or 7mm and tap with M8 x1.25.

Note ...More effort and lubrication required when drill size is 7mm.

Fit grease nipple, but grease entire bearing when re-assembling.

Estimated costs.

Drill 7.1mm m8 x 1.25 tap, tap wrench and 8 grease nipples. £30

My brother had a broken arm bearing in Spain on his acadiane. We heard a cracking nois now and then before. On his way to portugal he stranded near Burgos. There was a lot of cracking en the rear wheel ended up in an inward angle. The spanish AA-truck that came to get him was of a spanish citroen dealer. When they openend the wheelarm cover the were some rusty angular pieces of rust in there. Not one roller survived!!
