Post suspension
Hi all,

Just a small point: just been underneath to try to grease the knife-edge, (not sure of the best way to achieve that), when I noticed that the front wheel suspension units are fitted so that the cowling edge is facing forward.

Is this the right way, becasue surely the road dirt etc is likely to get sploshed inside the cowling.

I'm not worried, just wondering.

Car's an '82 Charleston.

Thanks all.

In the citroen maintanace book they to put grease on with a brush. Suspension units have rubber hamonica covers on normally.

Old cars like 2CV are notorius for rust traps due to negligent design.
Looks like they had lost all hope on fighting the tin worm.

Could you please post a pic of it?

Thanks for that.
I think I've just had a Doh! moment: re the units facing the wrong way. If I simply refit them the other way round that will solve the situation. Is it that simply?
I assume the eye holes on the dampers on each end are the same diameter.

Don't just refit them the other way round, as specific shocks demand specific orientation. Depends on the brand as you may see on the suggested topic.

Here's a pix of the front damper unit, the car front is to the left in the pix.
I can't see any makers mark so don't know if they are fitted the correct way round.
All I say is that during the six years I've had this car I've never been aware of 'handling' problems, maybe understeer when pushed hard, but I suspect that's just a characteristic of the 2cv.

I'm sure Ken posted on here about correct fitting. Or somewhere anyway. :)
