Indeed AZL57, one can do several things to make the car heavier. There has been a time that persons filled the spare tire with water. Some inspectors allowed to sit in the opening of the boot. Even loads of concrete were used in the boot. Nowadays none of that is allowed and it is checked for. The only remedy is to apply Michelin tires (set at 1,4 bar at the front and 1,8 at the rear side) and shocks from a brand in Northern Netherlands. But how stupid is that all ! The test should check the car as is designed. The car should not be adopted to the test, which by the way is for cars with vertical suspension, not for horizontal lay out.
Yesterday I heard that a car was disapproved because at the front the difference between left an right was to high ! That car had the so called goo shock and only were driven for 5000 km. Its getting a story to remember for ages, but will it bring down the number of A-types on the road ? At least that is what some presume what will happen.

What a nonsence and i did think the TUV in germany was akward...
Isn't it something the oldtimer federation (like fehac in the netherlands) can help with?

I was told that the TUV in Germany do not use such vibrating plates. And yes, in Belgium, the Belgian Federation of Oldtimer Vehicles should be contacted to intervene. Let's hope somebody, e.g. regional 2 2cv clubs, should start the necessary meetings with the BFOV.

Vibration plates in France - probably to a program, but what would they choose for a 60 year old van? Didn't want to change the 'class' to "collection" as I would loose the historic registration number

The program is one and the same for all cars. Our cars are very light, so the vibration is very intensive. Modern cars weight about double and have less of a negative influence.

Never seen those vibrating plates over here in the UK. They chek for moisture only, on the shocks. Other play in suspension is checked just by using a pry bar carefully during MOT. They let me watch when mine is done. Nervously! Only the king pins are usually the worry, despite obviously greasing them on the day. Sympathy is needed there and I usually get it.

@ianredspecial: Thanks for clear explanation ! We learn a lot from it ! The check on play is done on the other shaking plates operated by airpressure. The steering wheel is blocked, the car is lifted just a bit so that the tires still touches the plates with good grip. Then the plates can move in all directions and independently from each other. The inspector goes around with his torch and looks for pays an all components of the steeringrack, kingpinions etc etc. Even the tyres are looked at to see deformations. Horrible torture of our ancient cars. So that leaves us with a relevant question : is our suspension the safest in Europe ? I would answer this by saying that such testing is way overdone and safety is in the design of the suspension. This has been proven over more then 8 decennia, even without any testing !!!

@Edce
Is this all of your test stations, or just the one you use?

RogerV: the testing stations are all private companies, they are grouped and controlled by the administration of the Ministry of Mobility. This administration is responsable for the provision of the testing standards. There is an aim to test such that the inspectors influence is minimised, hence the use of mechanical testing facilities which are as far as possible automated. You can guess that all testing stations have to operate according to the same prescriptions and that all stations use the same equipment. In practise small differences still can occur. Testing stations are totally independent from any commercial activity (car sales, hire, second hand, import, export etc etc). A total of about 25 stations cover the country.

The liege 2cv club had an azam that didn't pass so they took the hydraulic schockabsorbers off. The car passed with only the batteurs on the wheels...the testers were very astonished when they told them...
