Taskos - a picture is easier.

I had never seen this actually done, I'd just seen a vague description, so don't imagine I really knew what I was doing ......

.... or how to weld properly!

I ran the bar this way to make sure that the weld on the back of the drum was nowhere near anything important inside. But with hindsight, the shorter the bar the better I imagine.

I do not think it matters that much how long the bars are, the shorter te better, but on that length I think it does not matter so much.

This is the way I have seen it done.
I even have seen this with two bars on either side.

It passed the French Controle Technique in November 2019 (despite the very noisy brakes), so it doesn't have to go again until late 2021.

And maybe they have seen this modification before?

If not I can always grind it off and put it back afterwards. Here in France, if the CT inspector thinks that there's something that isn't right, you can still drive your car, as long as bring it back for another test within two months.
