The Shed's engine miss fires if I just open the throttle a little. It idles nicely, and runs ok once you get past the rough spot. Can't say I've noticed it when driving as I would normally give it more beans.

It has luminition ignition. A Harley type (black) coil.

Any thoughts!

Full throttle everywhere? You probably do that anyway though.

Well, my 123ignition gave up the ghost two weeks ago, after 16+years and close to 200k miles. I've bought a new one from ECAS and there's an additional piece of paper that states that the standard 123 will fail if a 'super coil' is used, so maybe it's a thing with Luminition too. I don't have a 'super coil' fitted.

I would be surprised if it was the lummy itself. Could be a connector of course. Or plugs even. Coil, HT leads. Then there fuel and air leaks. Tappets are sounding tappity. :D

I'll start looking properly. :)

Roger,
not sure if I've already asked this, but has the carburettor been rejetted yet?

Any hesitation/ 'almost' misfiring due to a weak mixture on the primary choke will be much more pronounced in cold weather.

Hi Ken

Yes you did back in late February. It has a dyane cowl and pipework. You suggested 110 primary jet.

Not convinced its fuel, but you never know. :)

is the little injection pump on the carb working?

That appears to work ok under normal driving conditions. This only happens if I open the throttle a little bit.

I only noticed it because i was trying a new ignition system and it was running badly. I swapped it back to compare and there it was.

I think I may have resolved this, this morning, but we wIll see. :)

For the new ignition system I am currently fighting with, I have coil on plugs (VAG bosch 036 905 715).I used the same ground point on the bulkhead, as the regulator ground. When on the old system (lumenition), I noticed the max voltage had risen slightly when reving the engine. I decided to move the cop ground to the gearbox, and make good the regulator ground.

Result

The mis fire has gone, and I have a rock solid idle!

Still the new system to sort though. I've ordered some resistor type spark plugs. :D

Hi Roger,
Which ignition system.?
Need a cop driver design/circuit??
Have 2 cop units with connector plugs only 2 wire.
About < 1 ohm each, loath to try them in the 123 ignition as they state min off 1.5 ohms
Any hints

Cheers
Peter
