I guess that I am too late, but disconnect all wires to the alternator and see if it makes a difference. See Den's post about his 'H' van running on a dynamo. His problem was caused by dynamo/regulator making variable output voltage after starting. When the battery was fully charged, it settled down. Possibly the same for an alternator if the control/regulator box wasn't good or the alternator brushes worn out.
