Search Ebay for M5 nuts.
Probably got some in the shed. I'll check.

Hi Derek, I'm referring to M5 captive nut, which fits the square aperture that the cross member fits onto, not the bog standard M5 nut.

You could put a little metal bar behind it with a hole drilled in and tapped to m5. Like the hooks that were used to put the rear seat hammock in.

Check the pitch of the screw thread. Some of the square nuts are quite coarse, the screw thread may be finer.
