Techni-Tacot reckon it'll be about 4 to 6 weeks before I can have the van back.

And mine's the slightly more economical HY-72: it was a good bit less than two tanks of petrol. But I wasn't driving very fast - my satnav reckoned an average speed of 50kph. Even with the noisy gearbox I could hear the radio playing most of the time.

Yes. The good-old-mechanical charge relay doesn't fit with modern electronics. Same with 2cv and 123, some funny behavior may happen with that combination...

The dynamo makes much more maky kind of electrical noise, what alternator doesn't. A simply electronic ignition may work with dynamo, but no 123, noise supression with its computer isn't designed to work with that noise...

Try fitting a "Radio Suppressor" on the 12volt line to the 123 Ignition.

Again, my apologies for intruding with my H-van stuff.

Techni-Tacot have removed the engine and gearbox in their impressive workshop down near Aix.

They have done some work on the engine but I haven't heard exactly what (though I can see a new diaphragm on the fuel pump there, for example):

I haven't yet heard anything at all about the gearbox: so I am hoping that no news is good news. It all takes time.

The van had always been a camper, right from new. It was converted (by Currus) directly from the Citroen factory in 1964, so, unusually, the registration document shows it as a camper ("Carosserie: Caravane").

As a result in the last 55 years the engine hasn't accumulated a lot of kilometers, with use confined to a couple of trips a year: the dashboard says less than 90,000km (of which we did about 15,000km). So the engine isn't very worn. On the other hand, the gearbox had had long periods in a half-century of winters, when it was attacked by condensation and far too infrequent oil-changes, so it was leaky and noisy.

I'm hoping that it will all be a bit quieter after the rebuild.
