Post subject:  Fitting a Dash Cam with Rearview Cam.
I've been thinking about fitting a dash cam for quite a while now and I've just been looking on Amazon and found one that is integrated with a rear view mirror that attaches over the original mirror and is held in place by rubber straps. The kit comes with a rearview camera that can also be connected to a reversing light so it activates when reverse gear is engaged to allow you to see the view behind you via the screen display, so I'm thinking that would be a useful bit of tech if a 2CV actually had reversing lights, which clearly it doesn't. So my query is this... Is there a 2CV parts supplier that does a kit which operates a switch at the gearbox to power a reversing light? I might as well get the full use of the dash cam kit if I can.

Your late 2cv will probably have a fitment at the rear of the gearbox to take a reversing switch. The older cars didn't have this, at least, that is what I have read elsewhere. I rigged up a rear brake switch from a motorcycle fitted to the 'Y' section, and attached to the gear lever from the gearbox by galvy wire, cable tie, and bit of old inner tube placed in such a position that the switch was only activated in the reverse position. Worked well as an alternative.

As Derek says, it's dependant on the rear plate of the gearbox.

If I remember correctly, there is a ring that needs drilling and tapping. The switch then screws in and the switch is operated by the reverse gear rail.

In the 60s and 70s they had a kind of bridge like plate bolted on the gearbox lid and there was a brake switch on it that was operated by the gear-stick.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Can't believe I missed the switch on the ECAS website. I did take some time to look before I posted the thread. I'm a little apprehensive about drilling through the body of the gearbox as I don't fancy risking any shards of metal dropping inside the 'box and getting thrown around by the oil. I'd rather look at fitting a switch externally if possible, so something like the other two posts.

The back plate would have to be removed to drill and tap. ;)

I like the idea of of using the gear stick (on the box) as a reference though. :)

If you tilt the engine/gearbox forward some 45 degrees you don't even have to take the oil out of the gearbox to remove the back plate.

VGS in Belgium sells a kit which places a switch so that it will be operated by the gear lever.

Hi all! Going to attempt this operation to mount a switch in my gearbox. Is there anything I need to be aware of when taking off and mounting the back cover? Like springs that will come flying or bearings that need to be kept in a particular position?
