 drive shaft or kinkpin? Hi, I'm asking this before I dismantle anything in case this is a known problem and I am able to pre-order the parts.
I thought I had a puncture because the metallic noise was like the wheel rim running on the road. It wasn't a puncture. On looking underneath the n/s/f drive shaft seems to be scraping with the top of the kingpin assembly as I can see where the surface of the driveshaft is clean metal.
Any ideas?

Re: drive shaft or kinkpin? Whoops, the bore in the arm is worn, so the pin no longer has an interference fit and is climbing upwards. That needs sorting sooner rather than later; it's usually possible to shrink the bore by running a weld down the outside edge of the arm. That's a shame, I don't have a welder or the skill to use one!
I suppose a new kingpin may be required as well.
Would you know anyone within striking distance of south London who may be prepared to do it.
unfortunately this is my daily machine so I can't be without it while I fiddle with, probably making it worse!

Re: drive shaft or kinkpin? You may like to determine if there is play in the kingpin by jacking the car up and rocking the road wheel top and bottom. Any excessive play will require a new kingpin set and not just the pin resolving. Another option is to replace the whole arm and hub. I would suggest you at least find someone experienced with kingpins if you cannot find a 2cv specialist.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's probably electrical (or, an electric fuel pump!) ....

I've been put in contact via Ecas, of a chap in Tonbridge and he's doing the job shortly.
