it would be good if you get get to the bottom of this problem, so next time that your engine refuses to 'hot start', maybe just remove the carburettor lid and check how much fuel is in the bowls. ( not 'bowels',svp. )

As regards Citroen's advice for hot starts; pedal to the floor and keep it there, even if it's necessary to use several bursts on the starter.
Unless I'm mistaken, 'full throttle' means that there's not much vacuum on the idle circuit, so no fuel will be drawn through it.
In normal driving, the idle circuit is only in play 'up to about 1/8th throttle'.
Also, at cranking speed, there won't be sufficient velocity of air through the venturis to draw fuel through the main jets.
After 36 years of driving these cars, including quite a few trips to Spain and Portugal, I can confirm that the recommended technique does work...

HAH! Yeah bowl not bowels! Sometimes words slip through the spell checker and I don't catch it after proofreading my posts.

My Shedouin has been running badly recently, and I thought to washout the sponge air filter. I put it back on, and it was worse! After a little investigation as how it seals, I discovered that it didn't! So bought some draft excluder for £1 and applied to top and bottom. Running so much stronger now on both lpg and petrol.

So far, so good. Fitted the ECAS "Dry coil" and have noticed a slight improvement when running, starting seems to have improved, but need a few more Kms under the hood to be certain that my 'hot start' problem has gone away.

A few weeks back, I was at a boat show and looking out of interest at a big 6 cylinder Mercury outboard. I noticed that the 3 ignition coils were in pairs ie: each coil served 2 spark plugs via 2 leads. The units were quite small about 2.5" x 2.5" x 1.25" presumably 12 volt. They probably aren't cheap, most likely for electronic ignition but are made for a hostile environment being bolted to the cylinder block in a damp atmosphere. Anyone into boating ?

Well that's good news, Bob. But I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Today Accuweather said it was 82F/28C around noon so the hot starting carbureted blues have begun...

The thermometer at my house said it was 87F/31C. All I know was it was hot and humid so it actually feels hotter than that.

Anyway I made a stop to get some food and was maybe in the cafe no more than 10 minutes. Came back out and my 2CV won't start. Hit the starter and it eventually started up.

So the new coil and tuneup seems to have no effect on hot starting.

I may have to pop the lid on the float bowel to have a look and see what's going on.

Is it even possible that if petrol does boil in the float bowel due to heat soaking could petrol be pushed up through the jets and into the cylinders causing the plugs to wet?

So is holding the throttle wide open while cranking drying off the plugs or just refilling the float bowel?

I have this same issue with all of my carbureted cars this time of year.
