Hi all

Where can I get gearbox shims?

The bearing on the primary shaft. Any tips on changing it if you don't have a press?

Any thoughts appreciated.

So ..... about these shims!

Is it the top shaft (primary)?
Use the shim you had and adjust the selector forks if required.

Only the lower shaft(pinion) need a shim to set the pinion distance if the rear bearing has been changed.

As per Haynes, I wanted to adjust the end float on the layshaft and main shaft.

I found the following site.

Can't find the gearbox pixie dust section, but will give it a go.

any chance of letting us know which section of Haynes you're working from, so that this shim can be identified?
Struggling with nomenclature here, it'd be a lot easier if everyone used 'input shaft', 'main shaft' and 'pinion shaft'...

Haynes page 76. Gearbox section. Gear adjustment.
Endfloat - 2nd gear idler
Roller thrust bearing

Page 83, 2nd image for measuring current endfloat on mainshaft. I was going to add a shim next to the spacer collar.
Page 84 for measuring reduction gear/laygear endfloat. I was going to add a shim to either end of the existing shims as appropriate.

There is play in both of these areas. I was mostly trying to reduce the layshaft moving up and down the pinion shaft.

Of course ....... I could be being to pedantic.
