Does someone know the difference between the standard electronic ignition from 1-2-3 (eg from ECAS), and the apparently similar standard version sold by Mehari Club Cassis?

If there isn't a difference I'd be tempted just to buy whichever is cheapest at the current euro/sterling rate of exchange.

But I've had Albertronic's 1-2-3 before (and I've got their version of electronic ignition on my H-Van too) and I've been very happy with it.

Cassis may supply the DG system?
Have used a 123 (off road) it failed but set it back and it was repaired for the cost of P&P.
The DG unit also used off road for 6+ years, the unit has no holes in the pcb to let the damp in.

I was under the impression that 123 has a variable curve where as the budget ones have a fixed curve.

The variable curve is on the evo version

Any other views about which is better? Better quality, for example?

I don't understand why its a curve. I would have thought a straight line!

Tbh - I've tried all varieties of electronic ignition - 123, Lumenition,etc but found that in the end a good old points assist system works just as well for a fraction of the price of either of the aforementioned systems

I put on a lummy because I had one, and it cured the bad scatter. Huge difference.

My main reason for putting in electronic ignition is a very bad experience with what turned out to be a failed condenser: the recovery charge just once was enough to pay for electronic ignition. Modern condensers are cheap but can be very poor quality - an accident waiting to happen.

Both the original and electronic can fail. So no difference there. The difference is that while working, the electronic will be correct adjusted ALL THE TIME, as there are no moving parts(except the magnets) and no wear. The points will NOT, as there are moving parts that wear out. So if you drive a lot, with electronic you will always know the ignition is correct. There is a good reason the electronic ignition replaced the points on all cars a long time ago.

As to which electronic system is best, nobody probably knows, just believes.
I would not choose a point assisted one, as getting rid of the points is part of the, point.
I had a 123 EVO for many years, but it failed i Germany, while raining cats 'n dogs. It failing was not a big problem, I had the original points box with me, so it was a simple matter of just switching the 123 with the old points box.
The same will be the case if you drive on points, if they fail, you must do more or less the same operation changing the condenser and maybe point's. My point is, you will need to carry spares, whatever you choose to drive with, so why not drive on electronic and have the peace of mind that the ignition is always correct?

I replaced the 123 with a DG-nition. The DG has no pinholes in the back of the unit, as the 123 does. So I believe the DG is more resistant to water than the 123. I also improved the DG by adding sealant around the edges on the back, the led-light and the wires. So far no problems with the DG.

A note to the 123 EVO, I do think the vacuum advance made the engine a tiny bit stronger when driving with little opening on the trottle. But I never managed to really se any big difference in fuel economy.
