Did you have the advance mechanism apart? If yes did you put in back the right way?

Yesterday we checked the valve clearence , the ingintion and timing.
The breaker mechanisme was a bit stuck, it did not move well over the axel .
We wonder if it is from storing the engine , or it is the cause of the problem.

Next time we 'll check the advanced mechanisme , pressure .

Someone suggested it could be the carburettor, but I use the same carburettor for the original engine and this runs well.
Anyway , I will check this aswell, I have one spare carburettor.

The other spare-engine ( Fer's) is running well.

To be continued .

Last sunday we had a look at the engine again.
My brother suggested to check the condition of the oil, before doing anything else to the engine.
So we drained the oil from the engine and found very tiny bits of metal in the oil.
So there must be something very wrong insite .
Next we will take the whole engine apart to see in what shape the crankshaft, camshaft and bearings are .
to be continued .

For lack of things to do, my brother was on holiday,
I decided to overhaul the engine I got from Fer .
It was a good running engine, pressure oke , no play on the crancksaft.
So I replaced the ingition, polished ( or faceted ??) the valves and valve sittings and oil seals. Replaced the oil . And I cleaned the whole engine and repainted the metal of the air-tunnel.

It looks much better now.
And don't ask me why I did it, it was just for fun.

Today I will take the other engine apart, the one which does not run properly.

I got it !

There is a massive axial play on the lefthand piston rod .
On the righthand site there is also some play, but not as dramatical as on the left.
The cranckshaft makes an cloincky noise if you pull the lh pistonrod.
I drained the engine oil before and cleaned the cranckshaft with brake-cleaner before my inspection. So I guess the engine oil dimmed the play , but now there is clearly an immensive play noticeable .

I can't understand why we missed this before ! :(
