Hi all A question for the knowledgeable Is a ami 8 chassis the same as a AK 400 chassis? cheers Boggy |

No, although some folk do think they are the same... The most important difference is that the canisters on a 350/400 should slope down towards the rear, whereas those on an Ami chassis slope upwards. Misalignment of the tie rod could result in the rod fouling on the threaded end fitting which supports the canister. There are other differences, such as lack of the reinforcement 'top hat' on the rear longerons, no rear crossmember and no provision for a handbrake lever (either drum or disc) on an Ami chassis. Is this difference also likely to be a problem with an Ami8 chassis under a 2cv Berline (as opposed to an AK)? If so is there anything that can be done to get around it or do I need to add the major job of moving the rear internal cross-tube to my existing list of minor mods? (handbrake mechanism mountings, fuel tank mountings, bumper mountings, driveshaft sheilds). (I was intending to use standard 2cv berline rear arms, as the Ami track is narrower). |

There shouldn't be any problem with that combination. In fact, isn't that what EirikJ could have done when building his 'Ami2CV', except that Eirik chose to retain the Ami arms and modified the inner rear wings? using an Ami chassis you need tot modify the floorpanels.. Ami suspension canisters are much wider and longer then 2cv ones.. |
