Does anyone know why these stupid holes exist on the A pillar area of the windscreen surround panel?

They just seem very silly - if water gets past the first part of the windscreen seal, the final lip is no defence given that these holes are in front of it.

I think there was tape over them when I took the screen out but I'm not sure. I've put duct tape over them before refitting the screen.

They're not stupid or silly, especially once you've realised that they're access holes for spot-welding the windscreen panel into the bodyshell...

Ah, I thought there must be a reason other than weight saving... So taping over them is normal/recommended?

Giving them a good filling with "Waxoyl" [or similar] would be a good idea, before taping them over & fitting the screen.
(just a thought ;) )

One step ahead of ya Terry :) Although its kind of open back there. I've been spraying Dynax wax in the general area, avoiding wires etc.
