Post Clutch woes...
My mums 2cv has been steadily getting worse getting into gear and when we were round at Jono's he adjusted the clutch cable a touch so that it wasn't grinding.

Since then it continued to get worse and last night it suddenly ceased being oporable. Symptoms are;

*No resistance in clutch pedal
*Pull the cable tight by hand and there is 'a little' bit of feel
*Can't get into any gear.

Current theories are;

*Clutch cable gone - but there is a little bit of tension when you pull the casing
*Clutch cable not seated properly but suddenly snapped into place - please god let it be this
*Clutch fork gone - More hassle than I can deal with at the minute. If it is this it'll get put in a van and taken up to a renowned northern 2cv 'specialist' unless someone nearby fancies some cheap/easy work.

Pete,
unfortunately, the sequence of events described almost certainly means that the clutch fork has expired... :(

ken.
( Btw, does the use of inverted commas on the word 'specialist' have any significance, other than 'tongue in cheek' mode? ) ;)

Where in Yorkshire are you Pete? I'd have though you're better off seeing if Ken can get you booked in that taking it to a 'specialist'.

I'm very mobile in Yorkshire. I live in Leeds, mum lives in Rotherham.

I put 'specialist' because a lot of people seem to have an issue with 2cvcity. To be honest I've rarely got a bad word to say about them. I went down this lunchtime and spoke with one of the guys there who was happy to come and poke around at the dyane and talk about mums car. Talked through some possible causes (he came up with the same ones that have been mentioned here) and talked me through things to try before spending any money.

He came up with a plausible explination for the leaking water (wiper spindles) and told me to take the arms off, cover the spindles with the fingers of rubber gloves over night and if no more water comes in I've found my leak. Though I think the windscreen might be letting some in as it's started to go at the nearside bottom edge.

Well the clutch cable adjusted all the way out so guessing a fork has gone. I've run out of skill/knowledge and I've got to get some sleep before work tonight so gunna have to point and pay even if the paying is a bit of an issue :-(

£200 to fit + parts + cost of shipping vehicle to them. I would feel tempted to have a go myself to save on cost but I'm working for the next 14days and mum needs the car!
