Post Shiftier lubrication?
I hate to bombard the forum with all these questions. It would be great if my Haynes manual would get here so I could read up on some of these questions.

The shiftier on my car just feels like it needs lubricating in the shaft in the dashboard.

Is this a maintenance item? Just shift the car into a known gear like 3rd, disconnect the shift rod from the gearbox, clean it up a bit and grease it with something like a graphite based grease?

Use Talcumn Power, oil based products ruin the bushes.

Ps The forum is very quite, so activity is great.

Hadn't thought of talc etc. I've only used silicone spray but it does dry out.

I've never had talcum or graphite powder in my workshop as I know of. I have silicone spray though. Isn't that ok to use?

O-ring? I'll have to look at that to see what your talking about.

It's not a normal O ring, but a rubber bush surrounding the plastic bush which is in contact with the gear lever shaft.

Here is what it looks like.

I use a silicon spray and find it great, also while your sorting the gear action out make sure the heater pipes aren't fouling it :-)

You're each talking about different components here!
