Post Relays and other modifications
Hi folks
Im new here - and new to 2CVs. Have bought this charlston from an ex helicopter pilots wife (he died unfortunately). Ran like a dream - but suddenly wouldnt start. Since I aim to learn all about these great cars I checked the fuel filter and fuel flow, installed a new coil, and finally when none of this helped I looked at the points. Still got points - now this is a seriously modified car, I think he has driven to many eurpoean 2CV meets - anyway he has installed a box with 4 switches, and I think one of them concerns the ignition. Why would you want a relay invlved with the ignition ???
anyway I decided to install electronic ignition - DG-NITION - it all looked so easy - but - no spark??? In this installation theres 2 wires direct to the coil - no confusion there, and one to supply the +12V. The origanal line from the points dissappeared into the wiring - and another came back to the points - I am guessing it was to this relay. I have bypassed this in the new setup. Can anyone explain what function a relay might have in the original circuit, and whether I was correct to bypass in with the new ignition???

no point what so ever a relay will fail why put one in the ignition?
Only relays needed are fused ones in 2CVs lighting circuit to protect the loom and the switch.

Helicopter pilot - may have a thing for complicated machinery -2cvs are simple and work best when you keep them like that.
