Can anyone tell me what this is?
And do I need it? It was attached with a zip tie to the chassis, just behind the front bumper. Cheers.

It's a resistor, part of the daft 'dim-dip' arrangement fitted to later 2CVs. Get rid of it, along with other associated gubbins and fit a jumper lead to the 5-pin relay socket... viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4841&p=102533&hilit=dim+dip+diode+switch#p102533Sideways Tim wrote: And do I need it? Dim-dip lighting: A stupid idea, introduced by the UK (only) in the 80's (for all cars from 01.04.87), in contravention to EU law, so later dropped. When I worked at a Peugeot main dealer, 20 years ago, the Pugs had exactly the same resistor. Even then, we binned loads of them due to them being as internally corroded and bloated as the one in your photo.

Well, I've removed it and the relays. I think I've ballsed it up though. Now my sidelights and dip beam come on together (I think they did before), but I can't have just sidelights on. Is that how it's supposed to be?

Yep, that happens. Just flick the dipswitch the other way and the headlamps go out leaving just the side lamps. At least that is how it is on ours.
