I reckon the manifold on my '88 (M28 engine) car probably hasn't been off since it left the factory, there's nothing really left of the nuts at the front.

I've got a worsening gasket leak and after a year I think it's time to do something about it!

Was thinking of splitting the nuts off with something like this:

- A good idea?

Any other tips?

Will you have enough room for it - the nuts are in a recess in the manifold.

Hmmm good point - failing that. Any tips for getting them off?

Sam, I use a small cold chisel to cut away part of the remains of the nuts.
Something like this...

If you point the chisel in the direction that the nut would unwind, you should find that it 'peels' away from the thread, leaving it undamaged...

Sam, I had a one I could not shift, so I cleaned up the offending nut and welded a new nut over the offending one then removed the stud and nut as one, new stud from ECAS all good :-)
