Roger,
did you spot my recommendation in those notes that threadlock/Loctite should be used on the rear mainshaft and pinion shaft nuts when refitting?
Both nuts have been less than finger-tight on well over 90% of the gearboxes I've worked on.
Torque for both nuts is 50 to 65 lbf.ft. / 7.0 to 8.5 kgf.m.

I did see that :)
The loose nuts, would they cause the gearbox to be noisey?
How do you test the bearing?
can you get an indication of the front bearing whilst still in with?

Bearing changed. Not rigged for silent running, but acceptable.
