I've owned A Series since 1981 and during that time I've had the odd fuel pump fail but of late I've noticed that they seem to be failing much more often. Has anyone else observed this or is it just me. I know that all secondhand ones are now all going to be 25 years old but I have had new ones fail as well. So what's the answer I presume that its lead free petrol but are the new one designed to cope with led free? |

It's not a matter of lead free, but more a matter of ethanol. |

Of course, hadn't related the ethanol to our little fuel pumps. I replaced mine and it soon became rubbish. I've always used the 'super' fuel but I've found out lately from writing to Shell and BP that even the Super has 5% bloody ethanol in it. It will be going up to 10% in the next few years. Esso don't have it in their Super fuel at the moment unless you live in Teesside or Devon and Cornwall. |
