Same questions on the racing forum..with a similar levels of confusion.theres a special stuff from one of the performance oil people that looks like fence paint as its a green emulsion. ATF was popular. but remember racing cars never really bother about longevity.

however much easier to find a semi synthetic ep 75/80/90 GL4

Just examples youll find the comma stuff cheaper if you avoid Halfrauds.

Does anybody have any experience of additives (with the intention of making the 'box quieter); i.e. do they actually work?

The gearbox in my Ami 8 is pretty noisy (crown wheel and pinion, I believe). Ultimately, I will change the 'box at some point, but in the short term it'd be nice to make it a little quieter. An oil change helped, but I would also go for an additive if people know of one that works.

Following on from this, please see my other thread, asking for a gearbox...

In answer to the first question, I use Comma EP80/90. £3.50/l from Wilko.

I have tried STP gearbox additive to quieten my noisy box and I can categorically say does sweet fuck all!

As I suspected... I'll keep the stereo turned up until I get a new 'box fitted.

I can say adding new bearings certainly quietens things down, there is nothing in a bottle that can restore worn bearings.
