 "Raid tyres"
Probably any tyre in good condition will do...even for use on bad gravel roads with lots of potholes and rocks. What are the best tyres these days, for this kind a use? I really like the looks of the Vredestein 155R15, and would like to buy a set of those. But being bigger size, you will lose some torque in first gear. And I have heard they are though on the gearbox? Are this just theoretical, or can it actually be the case in real use? I know they are used a lot, so it can't be that bad? Or would I be better off, with normal 135 tyres? The car has original engine and gearbox(Dish-brakes) The original Michelin 135 M+s, are they any good for though use? Any thoughts from you guys with experience from Raids on bad roads/harsh conditions? Regards, Eirik

 Re: "Raid tyres"
My 2 Tyres worth.. @Vredestein 155R15.... excellent all round tyre and not to expensive, good side walls. For me No punctures on 2015 Bokerijders or Crapadeuche, but others with chunky off road tyres had 3 punctures. @original Michelin 135 M+s nice but expensive Prices Michelin UK £98.50 Vredestein £47

 Re: "Raid tyres"
Thanks for input. I thought Vredestein 155 was the so-called 'chunky off-road tyres' ?
What about the claim ,that the bigger diameter of the Vredestein are harmful to the gearbox? When climbing hills? I find it hard to believe, but I can be wrong .

 Re: "Raid tyres"
Not that chunky... See pic Larger size makes gearing higher, but most times you will not see any difference.

 Re: "Raid tyres"
Thanks for the links, lpgo. After starting off with "Hey Gays", it has some kind of happy ending. The stuff in the middle though, isn't quite relevant I'm looking for road-legal tyres, for use on roads. I'm going (I hope) to Iceland next year, and this winter I will prepare (I hope) one of my 2CV's for trips like that. And I think I will try those Vredesteins, if there are no opinions about them being a bad choice. Anyone?! I have to order them in the summer, because prices goes up when winter comes closer

 Re: "Raid tyres"
Quote: "those Vredesteins" are the best choise going to Iceland (my opinion)..... when do you go summer or winter? Otherwise you could take them with studs... Mark 4x4 Lewis knows all about them... With a good engine you almost don't "feel" the higher tyres, Only if you are going to do a lot of rock- crawling (as far as that is possible with a 2cv) or if you are fully loaded you can put in a 2cv4 gearbox... don't go over 90km/h (on GPS) (then otherwise you will get crazy) doing it for hours.....
