What can I do about a squealing clutch bearing. Fine with foot down but in gear, it REALLY whines. Is it likely to cause a problem?

I'm presuming it is the clutch bearing - can I oil it?

Fwiw its in the AK, and despite having an M4 and an old style gearbox I have a later type clutch bearing - with actual bearings rather than a graphite ring. Kit was by club cassis, clutch plate and friction plate is valeo.

It must be your gearbox that's whining, bearing is only rolling with the clutch pedal pressed to the floor.

More info Sam. Did the noise come soon after installing gear box and clutch or been driven for a while, then appear? Any play on the clutch pedal? use you fingers.

Try adjustment as Viking says. The bearing is on the fixed lever and if its just touching the spinning cover it can make all sorts of noises

Remembered the keys

It came after I put the box back in. If you stop the engine, the noise continues until the flywheels spun down. Will try adjustment of the clutch.

Aim for 2 cm free play on the pedal using your hand. Test it by running the engine at idle and gentle press the pedal with your hand until the noise disappear. Let us know the result

Started her today, no noise at all. Could it be that it'd been stood for a bit? I'll adjust the clutch anyway when I have a moment.

Same as mine. Fitted the finger spring clutch kit from ECAS to the 425 and the thrust bearing screamed all the time until adjusted so it didn't touch the clutch. Just screams now between off & firmly engaged - I think it's a built in warning to stop you riding the clutch! ;)

Finally got round to adjusting the clutch.

Now it won't go up hills.

Have I over adjusted it?
