Post subject:  2cv6 RHD to LHD

Hi - I have brought my 2CV6 back to France where she feels a lot more at home, but now I want to change her from RHD to LHD - Just how difficult is it to do? I asked a garage in UK and they just shrugged - then I tried again in France and was given a weird look and a shrug.
I have to remove thebody shell shortly to clear some rust in the drivers side floor - could it easily be done then.......everything else is so simple to do on a 2cv6 I cant think that it would be too difficult. Any one able to assist? :D

Depends on your ability. You will need a LH drive rack & headlight bar, and either a LH drive bulkhead or the ability to chop about the existing bulkhead. It may also count as 'modified' for insurance purposes. Better to sell it & buy a comperable LH drive car imho.

Specially in France.

Just have both - no tax and insurance is negligible.

If you have space, why not.....

You'd be best off having a scrap RHD donor and using the rack and sheetmetal work from that as a guide. It's not hard if you're experienced in stuff like that kind of thing. Personally I've never had a problem driving lhd in the uk but certainly that's no reason to to do it if that's what you want to do. There's quite a few subtle differences, speedo cable, clutch cable, crossbox, but the most intricate part would be moving the speedo which isn't simply left to right as the battery tray is all different. If you can chop an entire rhd bulkhead out from toeboard to screen surround you're going to find it easier but you'd struggle to find a car that is shagged out enough to chop up but which has a good enough bulkhead etc. good luck, and keep us posted. Any pictures of the car?
