I'm working on my spare engine. I'm pretty sure it's the correct one for the car.
By bore and stroke, it's a 425.
What is the defining difference between the 12 and 18 HP engines? I have the 4 stud heads, but the Solex 28 carb is a small throat, about 17 mm at the narrowest.

Thank You
That's what I thought about the heads, but I don't know enough to say with certainty.

Further to AZL's post, venturi on a Solex 28 as fitted to 12HP (A53 engine) was 22mm, a Solex 32 on an 18HP (A79/0 engine) would have been 28mm.
The engines also have different compression ratios, which Citroen usually marked on the piston crowns, 7.5:1 for the earlier engine & 7.75 for the later.
