Looks like franzose delivers a bearing in the kit that looks like a graphite ring. Could you tell if there is a bearing inside? And yes pic 3 is the right way to mount the clutch spring plate. It must compress because that is the way your clutchplate is gripped. If you push the pedal the inner disk is raised and gives the clutchplate free.

Have just fitted that type of clutch kit to Gerty's 425, non-centrifugal clutch flywheel. Currently mated to the gearbox out of the 425 AZU, which has a short input shaft which dosen't reach the nose bearing in the crank.
The kit was from ECAS, it came with a ball bearing type release bearing (see Ken's comment above) and went straight in.
Untill you tighten the bolts to compress the springs it will not go into the housing.
Only gripes are that the operation seems rather fierce after the coil spring clutch and the release bearing squeals all the time - possibly I should have greased it...

I'm fairly sure this must be the ball bearing type. It looks like a normal bearing (but I'm not sure how different a graphite one has to look) and the part number and appearance match the ball type listed on Der Franzose. Both types are side by side on this page: http://www.franzose.com/shop/citroen/citroen-2cv/2cvold/outside-of-the-engine/clutch/.
Some close ups of the new bearing if it helps:

Ken: So far it's definitely the friction plate contacting the wear surface of the flywheel which is limiting my fitting of the clutch rather the the OD. Although the OD did look like it might be a close thing once I get it nearer to the flywheel.

Thanks again guys, so many knowledgeable people here! :D

That is a ball bearing one. The graphit ('coal') type has no moving parts.

After too many complaints, we pulled the clutch kit (diaphragm with roller bearing) We sell the ''original'' kit and have 0 problems these days

The ''oversized'' clutch pressure plate came from MCDA made by MCDA, that went down the drain as well.

Here the no worries kit for 10 spline 425 engines http://www.2cviking.com/catalog/product ... 1d5ef29a52

Mike can't you relase the clutch cable a bit so the bearing won't touch?
And yes a lot of modern parts are of poor quality helas.

Fortunately the kit I have doesn't seem to be one afflicted with the OD problem.
Took me a while to test as I had to extract some sheared bolts from the flywheel 1st
All fits as Sam's pictures indicated, just needed the confidence to start tightening the bolts.
Hoping that tomorrow I can get the gearbox bolted on and test that I can disengage the clutch.
