Post subject:  Is my new starter 6v?

Hello tech type folk,

I've just got a new starter motor for the Ami in the post (as I only gave Eleanor my adress at about 4pm, that's fairly amazing going!), I've fitted it and it spins a lot faster than the old one, although it starts the car fine and seems to work ok, is there a chance it's actually a 6v one (hence it spins faster? or does my ignorance of electrical things extend father than i thought?)

If it is a 6v one, will it do any harm to leave it on the car for a week until I can get a proper 12v one at registers day?

There are no markings on it stating 6v or 12v but there was a little green label which appeared to have been written my a frenchman, dated 1975 tied to it which does say 12v, but I can't be sure whoever wrote it knew anyways.

When 6V A-models are converted to 12V, the starter is the only thing which is not. The starter doesn't care much, no need to look for a 12V.
