l found one bolt coming out and discovered the thread in the axle end appears to have to have Stripped. I'm assuming that the actual clamp is tapped, if so is it blind or is it possible to use a longer 10.9 bolt and a nut. Or could l use a longer bolt? Oh yeah it's one of the rear and you might guess it's the rear most

longer bolt and nut would do the trick. Or putting a helicoil in the clamp might work too. |

I take it the threaded holes in the clamp are through and not blind ? Thanks for your response

Sorry, I checked that earlier today and don't think that there's enough room for a nut to sit square on the axle pedestal. It might work if one side of the nut was ground away, but the strength of the nut would probably be compromised. Will take a photograph tomorrow, if that could be of any help... I'm with ken, I don't think you'll get a nut to sit square on it, I've never tried getting the clamp bit off the axle so I dunno how that works. I can't remember the torque setting but I've had a rack/axle fall off and to be honest it ruined my afternoon, so probably I'd say replace the axle if you can. |

Forgot to mention that it's unusual for the thread in the axle to strip, since there's a good depth of thread engagement. If you haven't already done so, maybe withdraw the bolt so that you can examine its condition? |

I had the bolt out Ken the threads are damaged near the shank, l ran a nut up the threads which apart from those which were damaged more to one side oddly! The rest was OK, so I'm thinking of maybe trying a longer bolt, which should reach good threads further in . I was thinking maybe the wrong one was in in the first place.Also the damage looks like a bit of misalignment, when the body was put back on after a new chassis done before l had the car.
