My AK2 602 has seen a few sunsets and although it is OK for road use, it does breath oil heavily into the air filter. What is this a sign of. Worn rings/ barrel, valve guides or what else. It doesn't seem to burn oil off through the exhaust, but does leak somewhat from the seals at the bottom of the push rod tubes - But that is a different problem.

Any guidance appreciated.

Check the oil filler/ breather to make sure you have a vac as when they fail you have pressure which causes lots of problems.

Wot Chris said, dead breather.

and/or worn rings, as well as advanced timing.

Curiosity here - why would advanced timing cause an oily air filter?

Pressure rise in the cylinders too early with over-advanced timing, hence more blowby into the crankcase.

A new breather won't cure an 'oily air filter' problem, in my experience.
It's more likely to accelerate the rate at which crankcase gases are expelled, carrying more oily vapour into the air filter box, isn't it?

OK, so if after 50 years of service, the components in the breather have perished, would that mean that you would get oil and air being pumped up to the air filter ?
Anyone seen this site and are there other alternatives to complete replacement?

Yep one of those ECAS after breather units - just the same as the good ECAS breather - reed valve inside

Ordered the In-Line breather on the 26th, arrived in France today - not bad. The weather has turned in a bit over here, but fitted unit this afternoon and now wait for the road test (Control Tech in 3 weeks time), so hope there is some improvement although emissions aren't checked on the old girl.
