Are they Hardened?

To soft... the knife-edge will go..

To hard.. the eye will go...

So you need to be in between...

the knife edges were replaced with 12.9 Bolts on the medical team Meharis of Paris Dakar early days. Im sure its in one of the "Ici...." books

dont know what the advantage of any would be - but for your short trial adventures having something easily sourced would be an advantage surely?

What steel do you use now for your bolts? Have they failed - NO - I would copy that.
I replaced my rod ends with new ones from ECAS and within 6 months they had a groove in them from the knife edge ( greased well all the time)

Have used 10.9 bolts, and you can see a large contact area,
Ken's info on knife edges gave me the idea to make my own.
Front's need to be longer than standard,
Rears I can used standard parts but new stuff is to soft and doesn't weld.
Hence the DIY approach

I can't help with the question from SubPete, but I will ask another one; Where can one buy good quality knife edges and the tie bar end piece?

It's getting harder to find decent used ones in my pile of parts, and I do not like bad quality after marked parts. I'll gladly pay more for good quality.
