Hi all,

With a bit of help from Martins thread (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5519) I am in the process of rebuilding a couple of gearboxes. Bearing replacement is no issue but my problem is that the input shaft oil scrolls are worn. It seems that most are... Both boxes had a lot of dirt/oil around the bellhousing which would suggest the scrolls are not doing what they are supposed to do - keep the oil inside the box. My question is - can I remove the internal bush pictured below (just the first shorter one) and replace this with an oil seal? Has anyone done this? I just wondered if the bush would come out easy enough? I guess I would have to block off the small oil return tube also? I haven't done any measuring to determine what size of seal as yet so am not sure if I can even get one to fit.

Or should I source another input shaft?

Any help/thoughts appreciated.

Edit - after looking at it again I have just realized that a seal of that outer diameter wouldn't slide over the splines on the input shaft...

and the scroll will rip the lip....id tried various o rings on the concentric ( rather than spiral) bit but as this coincided with the gap between the bushings the size of the o ring needed meant that the shaft wouldnt push through. STP or one of the tuners welds up the shaft machines it to take an oil seal but....bit of a faff

Ken has a nice little trick but it needs carefull set up, dunno if he can do it for DIY fitting?

BTW they dont look tooooo bad, new pilot bush at the same time?

STP doesn't weld anything in this world anymore, although the site is still up.

Ken would be your best bet, i'm very interested in his solution as well.

Thanks Sean. It looks like there is no easy solution. Yeah I have fitted a new pilot bush to the rebuilt engine so that should help things anyway. I will probably source another input shaft though.
