I bought a pair of Record shocks at Anglesey to replace the shagged Monroe ones on my van and after driving about on them for a few months, I can honestly say they are terrible - I mean they are completely and utterly fucking useless.

Are Record really the only option we have now for the back of an Acad? Does nobody have old stock of Monroes left or some other option? I think my van would actually handle better if I took these ones off...

Can't help you I'm afraid, but this post did make me wonder whether it's possible to repair or upgrade our old shock absorbers?

I have quite a few leaky old Lip shockers, for example. Can they be fixed? Similarly, could Smyth602's crappy Records be upgraded?

I did wonder about trying to refill them with thicker oil and see if that helped, but that would need someone with better skills than I to drill them and then weld a nut on to reseal them I guess *coughseanlyoncough*

I don't blame uncle roy for stocking shite if it really is all that's available, it just seems insane to me that with so many acads out there in europe that there is NO other supplier for rear shocks, or some stock that someone has hidden away and forgotten about :(

i bought a set of new ones from Der Franzose a couple of months back (no brand-name mentioned on the box) - they are very soft, might even say too soft, especially if you bare in mint that they do not have to cope with the weight of a acadyane "housing" - my acadyane chassis is carrying a metal&fibreglass pickup cabin and a metal trunck - in total a lot lighter than the original acadyane. last week I bought a DIY cabinet and transported it home with my pickup - this test proofed clearly to me that they are fine just driving with an empty trunk, but with some serious load they ünder-perform".

Modifying them with thicker oil as described in older topics might be a good thing to consider

I had a look on the franzose website - I'd say from the picture that they are the Record ones too - the end 'eyes' are tiny on them compared to others.
