So, there's a rusty pile of shonky 2cv parts that I consider my 'spares pile'. Amongst this decreasing heap of rubbish were a pair of front arms. I need a pair for my 2cv so I got them out today to clean up.

First thing I noticed was the play in the kingpin, or perhaps the washer, because all the play is 'up and down'. The swivel hub moved about 2mm along the kingpin. I assume this is wear in the washer or the little cup thing that sits over it? Anybody know the dimension for eye end of the arm?

Also, the knife edge hole is worn for some reason, am I pissing in the wind here or is there any reason I can't just chop that bit off my old arms and weld it on?

Unrelated to my questions, a couple of observations:

Undoing a hub nut with the arm off the car is a right caper and furthermore removing a kingpin with the arm off the car is a shit of a job.

king pin isnt so bad you need to balance the big end on an axle stand while the KP housing is on a 50mm or so wood block on the floor while deployoing the big hammer

up and down free play was 0,4mm limit by Citroens standard which is quite a clonk

Where the free play coming from? Is it the washer thing or is it likely to be the arm that's worn?

everywhere! the face of the KP hole is usualiy dished and the swivel housing gets worn too just draw a sharp file over the surfaces and youll see what sort of state they are in after 40 yrs of road grit and dry grease

I found changing my kingpin with the arm off OK, clamped it in the vice

Probably means that the fit of the pin in the arm was on the slack side, since the correct interference fit requires the use of something with a bit more clout than a toffee hammer to drive the pin home... ;)
