Hi all
Did Citroen ever produce the disc brake gearbox with drum brakes on it? Possibly during change from drum to disc, or if there was a model that continued to use drums after everything else had gone to discs?
Thanks
Mike

Yes, Ami 8 was the first to have discs on its introduction in 1969, followed by Dyane/Mehari in 1977, 2CV was the last in 1981.
You can find gearbox casings which have the lugs for mounting disc brakes, but not drilled...

Thanks Ken!
These would of course have the clutch cable under rather than over?
And, were the finned drums only 220mm or where there finned 200mm ones?

Yes, clutch operating lever as it lasted until the end of production.
Stiffening/cooling fins on both sizes of drum, but much smaller on the larger type, probably because they didn't have to work as hard... ;)

Accually the 2cv was the last model which was changed from drum to disc. As Ken said; Ami 8 in modelyear '70. (I have one of the first with discs) then came the Dyane/Mehari in '78 and as last came the 2cv in 81... Ofcourse some 2cv6 drummers have got the disc-brake gearbox cassings (Citroen wouldn't be Citroen if they didn't do this ;) ;) ), I have even seen some of the last 2cv4 gearboxes with the discbrake attachment..
Some drummers have already the M10 threat?? in them....

Thanks Ken & Geo - I was just putting my foot in it with a guy on ebay who was advertising an 'early 2cv g'box' which was clearly the disc brake casting with finned drums on & I knew I'd get a proper answer from here! He was suggesting it as suitable for a 425 (as well as 435/602) so I was suggesting it wasn't. He hasn't shown the Q&A tho...

425 always have a diffrent cassing, with the shiftlever at the end (and a black painted cover)
and small drums. So 425 never ever had the "2cv6" cassing

The ami 6 and AK 350 and Azam 6 had also this old gearbox cassing but with big drums.

Ami 8 and Dyane 6 always had big drums

Indeed Geo! My AZAM has the old type box, unfortunately it has no synchro left which makes shifting gear a rather protracted event, making a slow car dangerously slow! Hence me looking @ gearboxes on eBay...

Double clutching (better would be double declutching) can help you in this case, If you know how to do it right, you don't need a clutch at all when shifting up and down the gears.....

You move the shiftting lever at exactly the right rpm so the synchromeshes don't need to work at all.. If you downshift you need to push the throttle for a short moment to get the rpm right for the lower gear.....

I learned this on old Dutch army-trucks (during duty)..... When I'm lazy I still do it in my own 2cv's (I won't need to move my left foot then   )
