my bro went away in his motorhome and attached his 2cv to a towing frame for the first time
he had big probs when cornering, the 2cv,s front wheels wouldn,t steeraround corners /roundabouts properly(it was really bad)
he had to unhitch and get his wife to drive the car instead, he wanted to tow it to shows, seems thats a no-no now
can anyone throw any light on this prob?

I've towed loads on an a-frame with no issues. Your brother did remember to either disengage or remove the steering lock?

If you're towing it with the keys in for the steering lock, remember to remove the +ve to the coil and the exciter to the alternator... or just remove the -ve from the battery.

I think I did about 8000km of towing...

There are a few things you can't do with towing by an A-frame....

First:
Most important you can't back up.. Maybe 5 inch but that's it... The steering wheel will instantly go to the it's maximum output blocking the car....

Second.
Don't do sharp corners. even if the leading car can make a fair corner the following car will
already be at it's maximum cornering and then the whole following car gets in a wobble which can mostly only can be stopped by stopping both cars....

So don't do sharp cornering, look ahead and try to make big corners, this is probably what did go wrong on your bro's car....


Don't a frame a 2cv with another 2cv. When braking hard you will end up in a spin and at least 2 fenders are lost by doing that.. (happend to me so be warned).....

So only a-frame a 2cv with a car wgich may tow a trailer without brakes at least the weight of a 2cv.... if possible more...

What kind of A frame? The type that straps to suspension or type that fits on chassis towing eyes? Ive used the type fitted to chassis eyes for 15 years and never had a problem. If frame is to high it may be lifting car in corners causing car to lift and drag instead of steering. Maybe need a drop plate on tow ball

Only problem I had was my little gearbox broke to bits when running neutral.

So I have a nearly new A frame for sale if anyone wants one.

Two bungies cords on the steerring wheel will force it to return the centre at the end of a corner.

This as worked for me on a number of occasions.
