Torque & Tappet Settings for 425
Hi,
Can anybody please tell me the following settings for a 1962, 3 stud, 425cc engine (from an AZU, if that makes any difference): -
Cylinder head torques.
Head oil feed pipe torques (head ends)
Tappet gaps
Many thanks

Re: Torque & Tappet Settings for 425
Well for the 425cc A79/0 engine (which I think is with the 4 stud manifold..) my Haynes says: Tightening hot initial: 10 lbf ft / 1,5 kgf m = 14.7Nm final: 15 lbf ft / 2,3 kgf m = 22.6Nm
Again Haynes but not engine type specific: Cylinderhead oil unions: 10 lbf ft / 1,3 kgf m = 12.7Nm
Oil cooler bolts (which I suppose are the early cooler/engine type ones): 10 to 14 lbf ft / 1,4 to 1,9 kgf m = 13,7 to 18,6Nm
For comparison Haynes says for oil cooler union bolts (which I suppose it the late type) 7 to 9 lbf ft / 1 to 1,2 kgf m = 9,8 to 11,8Nm
Tappets; Haynes says 0,15 to 0,2mm (0,006"/0,008"). On my M4 engine there is a plate next to the engine plate, saying it should be set "chaud" = warm/hot to 0,2mm and I think this is the rule of thumb for all early type engines.
All this could be different for your engine with 3 stud heads, but I am sure it can't be far out.
Hope this helps.. good luck!

Re: Torque & Tappet Settings for 425
Hi Bart, and thanks for that. I did check the Haynes first, but would like to find out the correct settings for the 3 stud before I start screwing this engine back together. I presume tappets should be set a touch wider than the original specs nowadays, as per M28s?
P.S. Tappets will be set cold, as the engine's currently on my kitchen table...
